Study in and live in a 18th-century
château, a friendly, family setting in the countryside
near the wine areas of Beaujolais and Burgundy, just
west of Lyon, and on the Loire. Both the French and
cooking programs give students plenty of time to relax
by the pool, bicycle along the canal, and explore.
Students live, take classes and have
all meals in the château and its 13 hectares
(32 acres) of park and woodland. Your hosts at
the château, René Dorel, a Frenchman,
and Margaret O’Loan, an Australian, have traveled
and worked widely in Europe, Asia and Africa. They
both speak English, French and Japanese and René
has dabbled in German. Their guests cover a wide range
of ages and include adults, singles, couples, and
business people, of many nationalities. Participants’
French levels range from beginner, up to those who
have a solid base, to fluent speakers who wish to
improve their fluency.
With its own pool, bikes, large parkland,
and nearby tennis courts and equestrian center, 9-hole
golf course and an ice-skating rink, the Château
offers something for everybody. Non-studying partners,
and children and teens with adults are welcome.

high-speed train, from Paris to Roanne, and
take a taxi to the school (total time, 4 hrs.). |
Course prices include:

Sunday lunch are not included)

Insiders’ Wine & Gastronomy
Tour in October |
| Private groups of 8 to 12 people
can coordinate a unique opportunity to taste some
of France’s finest wines and visit wine cellars
accompanied by a professional wine-maker and wine
teacher. Englishman Simon Hawkins, after a career
in export sales, returned to his first passion —
wine — and studied wine making at the
celebrated Wine School in Macon, France. Simon and
Isabelle Hawkins bought Domaine du Fontenay, a beautifully
situated vineyard overlooking the gentle slopes
of the AOC — classified Côte Roannaise.
The leading French wine magazine “La Revue
du Vin de France” recently classed their Domaine
as the top producer in the Côte Roannaise.
The course is taught in English.
