Originally a quaint fishing village,
Biarritz’s prestige and elegance dates back
to the beginning of the 1900s and is still famed today
for its beaches, luxurious hotels, casinos and golf
courses. A fun and very lively town for teenagers
and adults in summertime, there is always something
going on: bands playing, jugglers, painters in the
old port, street theatres, skate boarders, surfers
showing off their talent. The area also provides a
perfect environment for water-sport lovers, its long
sandy beaches and incredible waves attract surfers
from all over the world. The backdrop for this seaside
town is the Pyrenees mountains, the heart of the Basque
region which extends into Spain. Biarritz is a very
friendly, safe town and easy to get about by foot,
bike or bus.
Study French in a pretty area, 15 minutes
by bus from the sea front, beaches and town center.
Keep cool during class in spacious air-conditioned
classrooms.

Although
this is an academic program, the emphasis is very
much on the pleasure and benefits of learning a
language. You return home having made great strides
in your French, and made new friends from many different
countries, and gained a competitive edge on your
college applications. Teachers are of French nationality
with French as their mother tongue; many of them
have lived and taught French abroad and speak several
languages, therefore relating easily to different
cultures. Together with their enthusiasm and spontaneity,
they guarantee lively and effective lessons! On
the 1st Monday of the course a member of the host
family will accompany you to the school. All the
host families are quite close to the school and
town center. They’ll do their very best to
make you feel at home. The host family provides
all meals; at lunch time you will eat a packed lunch
with the other students and your teachers. On Wednesday
everyone joins in a picnic during the excursion.
In addition to accommodation with a host family,
all meals, and 15 French lessons per week the package
also includes: 1 cultural activity and 1 full day
excursion (the Musée de la Mer (sea museum),
trekking in canyons, mountain bike riding in the
Pyrenees, guided tour of Bayonne and its modern
art museum and cathedral, visit of the Basque museum,
rafting in the Pays Basque region, guided tour of
Biarritz chocolate museum and its workshop, guided
tour of Basque villages such as : St Jean de Luz,
St Jean-Pied-de-Port, visit to Lourdes, etc) and
2 sports activities per week (surfing once a week,
horseback riding, golfing, rafting, beach ball,
mountain bike riding, Pelote Basque, hiking, sea
canoeing, swimming); and transfers to/from Biarritz
airport or train station to your host family. Arrivals
are on Sunday and departures are on Saturday from
9.00 am to 10.30 pm. Arrangements should be made
to travel to either Biarritz airport or train station
