Provence evokes images of grapevines,
olives, herbs and sun-filled landscapes. La Maison
aux Volets Bleus, where you will dine each evening,
has been written up in Gourmet Magazine — a
culinary treat! Venasque (home base for all of the
courses) is one of the most stunningly located villages
in all Provence — built on a spur
of rock, it commands incredible views of the surrounding
mountains and valleys, with cobbled streets at your
front door — a visual and artistic dream.
All this is set against a backdrop of grand Roman
monuments, sleepy wine villages, red ocher cliffs
and mighty Mt. Ventoux.
All of the above arts programs are
based in the same town and take place together, field
trips, meals, etc. The programs begin and end on a
Friday, giving time to plan a few extra days in Paris
or Provence for those who wish.

| A Photographic
Medley: Polaroid Transfers & More! |
| Imagine capturing the sweep
of an open landscape or the experience of a resonant
visual memory! This workshop is designed to do just
that — photographic in nature, but
with no darkroom or extensive equipment required!
Work with photo processes that are accessible, exciting
and applicable to almost any medium. The starting
point is Polaroid transfers with their haunting
watercolor-like images. To add dimension, photo
collage will be integrated. If time/weather permits,
you may touch on Cyanotypes: “printing in
blue” with the sun’s help (no darkroom
necessary), one of the earliest non-silver photographic
processes. Choose any or all these methods as points
of departure — a whole new focus
on creativity, exciting to folks at all experience
levels. The week combines studio time with excursions
exploring Provence’s wonderful diversity,
from Avignon to renowned market towns, to a delectable
wine tasting.

chance to design and print fabric with blocks and
stamps imbued with your own imagery and patterns,
with plenty of inspiration surrounding you in every
village and street corner! You will end the week
with an historical look at the French printed textile
tradition. Work you produce will be suitable for
the home, as well as for garments. The week combines
studio time with excursions exploring Provence’s

| Painting
& Drawing in Provence |
| Hillside villages sprouting
from rocky heights, sweeping vineyards and rolling
farmland…the Provence landscape is nothing
short of magnificent: from apple blossoms and daffodils
in the spring, to bunches of ripe grapes in every
vineyard in the fall, and outdoor cafes humming
with activity. Work individually with your instructor
making it easy to set your own creative goals, style
and pace; use whatever medium you most enjoy —
charcoal, pastels, watercolor, gouache, acrylics
or oils. This setting has inspired countless French
artists, most prominently Van Gogh and Cézanne,
so no week would be complete without giving you
an historical perspective! The week combines studio
time with excursions exploring Provence’s
wonderful diversity, from Avignon to renowned market
towns, to a delectable wine tasting.
